@Kurt – Map Channels will take any KML file you can feed to it, so if you can create one on the fly with whatever back end you’re using, it’s certainly possible.

The only downside is that you have to manually refresh the KML for the Map Channel to update.

If I wanted to not code anything I’d look at using Zeemaps. If I had time to develop it, I’d just use the Google Maps API.

Zac: This was great. Thanks much. I’ve bookmarked it. Sheesh, I wish I’d seen this before the Meramac River flooded last week (of course, I was on vacation anyway….but that’s another story). We could have considered a way to have readers upload photos of flooded parts of the region and mapped their photos as you suggest here.

My question, I guess: You say “make note of the URLs (of the pictures).” I take it that cannot be done dynamically (i.e., so that you can accept reader photos and add them dynamically to the map?

Thanks for posting. This has usefulness as easy to produce evergreen content. I could see dining guides with photos, menu & times; polling places with photos and details; campus or city land mark tours, etc.

@alexandre – MapChannels only lets you do so much. Since the picture is already in the sidebar, I figure the zoom on the location is fine in the bubble.

If you want to do more with MapChannels, you can modify the javascripts that they give out if you’d like to host the code yourself.
