On vacation

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

I know I haven’t posted much lately. Been busy with lots of random stuff, but don’t expect me to post anything this week. I’m headed out to New England to visit family and friends with The Wife.

I promise to be a little more active here when I get back. I have quite a few draft posts that need some cleaning up before I publish.

Anyway, I’ll still be on twitter for the trip and might have some photos on flickr, too.

Done

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Ok, finally, we’re back up to where I want to be with blog-o-blog.

I’ve added a few simple design changes. Mainly in the single post pages. Integrated categories and tags, as well as pulling in similar and recent posts at the bottom of the article page.

Aside from that, I suppose I don’t have much more to say.

Your regularly scheduled programming will be back in no time.

Hello world!

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Ok, things are beginning to get back to normal. I apologize for the downtime. It was my fault, really. I corrupted the hell out of my database during an upgrade. I have no idea how it happened. Thankfully I keep all the posts and comments backed up in a few places.

The plus side is that I learned a ton about phpMyAdmin in the past couple of days…really brushed up on my SQL. Good for me.

Obviously, categories are gone. And all my little design tweaks are buried in a million files on my hard drive somewhere. I’ll probably just start over from scratch. There’s been a few things I’d like to change anyway. It’ll also give me the chance to really pare down my categories and play with tags a little bit more. I need to delve into PHP and CSS more anyways.

Any recommendations on some must-have plugins? I find myself without any after I went nuts and deleted everything from my Web server. That was a little drastic, but sometimes it feels good to start over.

It’s randomonium!

I’ve been too busy this summer to post long, well constructed posts, and even short posts, but I’m not too busy to post random things I’ve come across on the internet.

You can either find me on Facebook, where all the cool kids like Scoble hang out. Or you can follow this random stream of conscious list I started at tumblr.com:

Blog-o-blog gets a facelift

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

This blog is about one thing and one thing only: my half-baked, insane, and bound-to-get-me-thrown-out-the-door-one-of-these-days ideas about the future of news.

I haven’t had many of those ideas lately. I’ve been too concerned with making my fancy new blog look silly when I should just get down to it. This shit’s about words. And only words. Well, maybe a picture or two.

I’ve been in love with the guys from Information Architects since I saw their mock redesign of the Washington Post. It was everything a newspaper should be on the Web.

No tricks. No gimmicks. No flashing banner ads. Just beautiful words and pictures on a page.

They’re giving away this $1,5000 dollar design because people are too stupid to buy it.

So there you have it. A new fancy look for a dopey blog.

So let’s get to it, shall we?

I’m not dead yet

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

I am however, not blogging much. There are a million excuses.

That said, I’m still reading a bunch, and as always, I’m online (you can reach me on gtalk at zac.echola at gmail).

Things should be slowing down again here pretty soon, so expect my rants to resume their normal course.

Muffin but video

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

There’s going to be a few changes to the site. One of those changes is adding a section for video.

There will likely be some bugs with the site over the next few days, so if you notice anything, drop me a line.

Anyway, here to officially launch the new site (even though it was up all day yesterday):
